“It was a huge effort. We sustained damage in 49 counties in the state of Texas. So helping to rebuild houses, apartments, that sort of thing over such a large area has been quite a task. The Homeowners Assistance Program has been able to help over 4,000 families return home. In safe, beautiful and comfortable homes. So we are very excited to be at this point, we are so excited to be in Port Lavaca, where we have been several times. Both started this program and others to let people know that help is available and to now have the finished product, ”she said.
About 875 houses are currently under construction
“We are just thrilled to be a part of this community. It’s been a long road for all of us and it’s a lot of work to get those funds out of Washington DC and then turn them into help for those who need it. We have over 4,000 houses that we have completely rebuilt and we have about 800 more that are currently under construction. So we’re going to be there until all the money is used up, ”she said. “We’re just happy to do this for everyone. “
The General Land Office is also helping tenants in counties affected by Hurricane Harvey by administering $ 588 million to rehabilitate and rebuild 80 affordable multi-family developments, or 6,000 units, damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Harvey in 48 eligible counties.
